AllStar Bass Team Event of 2007 Season

(Oct. 09, 2006 - Mesa, AZ)... The team of Andy Shelton of Tonto Basin and Rod Nelson of Buckeye weighed a six-bass limit totaling 20.69 pounds to win the first AllStar Bass team tournament of the 2007 season, which was held Saturday, October 7, 2006, on Roosevelt Lake. The pair received checks amounting to $4,770 from the prize fund of more than $17,500 in cash and merchandise.

Shelton and Nelson fished Carolina-rigged soft baits on deep points all around the lake. Their limit included a 5.22-pound largemouth. The team is sponsored by Pace Pacific Corp., The Tackle Box, Hwy 188 Tackle Shop, and Phoenix Fishing Supply.

Second place went to the team of Steve Foutch of Apache Junction and Lon Armel of Scottsdale for a limit weighing 16.48 pounds including a 5.65-pounder, which fell for a jig. They received a total of $1,675. They fished spoons, jigs and jerkbaits on points in main-lake and Tonto Creek areas. The team is sponsored by Marlam Industries, Temcon Concrete, Tres Banderos Restaurant, Arizona Joeís Restaurant and Skyís Restaurant.

The Tempe team of Dave Kemper and Harvey Beller finished in third place with a limit weighing 16.45 pounds including the eventís Big Fish - an 11.30-pound largemouth. The pair shared a total of $1,675. They fished topwater poppers and drop-shot worms in 8 to 15 feet of water on mainlake points. Their big fish jumped on a popper early in the morning.

Fourth place went to the team of LeRoy Price of Claypool and Jeff Allen of Flagstaff for a limit weighing 15.42 pounds. They pocketed a total of $1,850. They fished jigs and Texas-rigged worms on main points and flats in the Tonto Creek arm. The team is sponsored Nitro Boats, Mercury Outboards, Tracker Marine Boating Center, Bass íní Crappie Guide Service, Lewis Custom Baits, Sufix Line, Horne Motor Co., Ash Street Barber.

The team of Charlie Crawford of Peoria and Charlie Goslin of Glendale took fifth place with a limit weighing 14.74 pounds including a 5.72-pounder. They received a total of $900. They fished jigs and heavy spinnerbaits 20 to 25 feet deep on major points in the Salt River arm. The team is sponsored by Southwest Boats and Hwy 188 Tackle Shop.

Rounding out the top ten teams were Paul Reger and Gary Wolfe, both of Glendale, 13.79 pounds, $425; Leroy Moss and Curtis Palmer, both of Apache Junction, 13.37 pounds, $1,230; Shannon Coppell, Gilbert, and Andrew Napoleon, Mesa, 12.56 pounds, $537; Tony Adolf and Pat McCarville, both of Phoenix, 12.24 pounds, $300; and Matt Hegarty, Phoenix, and Fabrizio Ruggiero, Paradise Valley, 12.06 pounds, $550. Twenty teams received checks.

The second AllStar Bass team tournament is scheduled for Saturday, December, 2, again at Roosevelt Lake. For more information, call 480-894-2775.
